Hourly to salary calculator
What an hourly wage comes to by the week, the month and the year, and roughly how much of it you keep after federal tax and payroll taxes.
Yearly salary
$52,000
$4,333.33 a month · $1,000.00 a week
- 2,080 hours a year
- About $3,664 a month after tax
- Full-time year: 2,080 hours
At $25.00 an hour for 40 hours a week over 52 paid weeks, you earn $52,000.00 a year before tax. That is $4,333.33 a month, $2,000.00 every two weeks, $1,000.00 a week and $200.00 a day on a five-day week.
After federal income tax withholding of $4,060, Social Security and Medicare of $3,978, you keep about $43,962 a year, or $3,664 a month. That is 84.5% of your gross pay, for a single filer paid every two weeks with nothing else on the W-4.
- Overtime, bonuses and tips are not included. If you work more than 40 hours a week, use the overtime pay calculator: hours over 40 are paid at least time and a half.
- The take-home figure is an estimate with the 2026 federal withholding tables and the standard deduction. Your own W-4, benefits, 401(k), local taxes and a real state tax change it.

How it works
- Multiply your hourly wage by the hours you work in a week to get your weekly pay.
- Multiply the weekly pay by the number of weeks you are paid in a year, usually 52. A full-time year of 40 hours a week is 2,080 hours, so $25 an hour is $52,000 a year.
- Divide by 12 for a month or by 26 for a paycheck every two weeks. To find the take-home pay, subtract federal income tax withholding, Social Security (6.2%) and Medicare (1.45%), and your state tax.
Worked example
$25 an hour, 40 hours a week, 52 weeks: $1,000 a week, $2,000 every two weeks, $4,333.33 a month and $52,000 a year. For a single filer that leaves about $44,000 after federal tax and payroll taxes, before any state tax.

Good to know
- A full-time year is usually counted as 2,080 hours: 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. Paid vacation and holidays are inside those 52 weeks. If your employer does not pay them, fewer weeks are paid.
- A salary and an hourly wage are not the same thing for overtime. An hourly worker is usually owed time and a half after 40 hours in a week; an executive, administrative or professional employee is exempt only if paid a salary of at least $684 a week ($35,568 a year) and doing exempt duties (DOL).
- Dividing a yearly salary by 2,080 gives the equivalent hourly rate. Dividing the monthly figure by 4 does not give the weekly pay, because a month has a little more than 4 weeks.
- Many jobs offer benefits on top of pay, such as health insurance, a 401(k) match and paid time off. When you compare an hourly job with a salary, compare the whole package.
- The take-home estimate is for a single filer, a married couple filing jointly, or a head of household, paid every two weeks, with only Step 1 of the W-4 completed.
- The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, and many states and cities set a higher one: the higher applies (DOL).
