-
The RAL (gross annual salary) is a year’s gross: less arrives in the payslip.
-
It is the official archive of national agreements; every agreement has a code that the employer must give you.
-
If it is fixed-term, look at the end date.
-
Six months at most. In fixed-term contracts, 1 day for every 15 calendar days: from 2 to 15 days up to 6 months of contract, up to 30 between 6 and 12 months.
-
You can work from 16, after at least 10 years of school, and only after a medical visit that finds you fit.
The documents to bring
0 of 6
-
The tax code identifies you with public bodies and administrations.
-
Salary must be paid by traceable means, such as bank transfer: never cash in hand.
-
Without a valid permit the employer cannot hire you.
-
Without it, the employer does not apply them. It also holds for later years: report every change.
The first day
0 of 7
-
It must be given before you start working; the information that is missing must arrive in writing within 7 days.
-
Leave, notice, training and the collective agreement can also arrive within a month.
-
The mandatory notice must be made by the day before work starts.
-
It is mandatory, is done during working hours and costs you nothing.
-
It checks that you are fit for that job.
The TFR and the pension fund
0 of 6
-
At a first job it must explain your agreement’s fund, the automatic enrollment, the possible choices and the timing.
-
From July 1, 2026, if you do not choose, you are enrolled automatically in the pension fund provided by your collective agreement.
-
To leave it with the company or change fund, opt out in writing within the 60 days; you can still join later.
-
All the TFR and the contributions provided by the agreements go to the fund; if you earn less than the social allowance, your share is not mandatory.
-
If you do not say, automatic enrollment in the new agreement’s fund applies.
The first payslip
0 of 7
-
The employer hands it over with the salary. Your signature on the slip does not prove you were paid.
-
They go to your pension. Some sectors have different shares.
-
This year’s are calculated at year-end and withheld the next year, in installments.
-
Leave is at least 4 weeks a year and cannot be paid out instead of taken, except at the end of the employment.
In the months after

-
You view it online on the INPS website, or through the contact center or a patronato.
-
The employer gives it to you by March 16: it summarizes the year’s income, taxes and contributions.
-
In 2026 it was filed by September 30: check the date for the year you do it.
-
You can make an inspection request to the territorial Inspectorate, with the contract and payslips.

Good to know
- From July 1, 2026 the TFR rule changes for those hired for the first time in the private sector: there are no longer 6 months to choose, but 60 days to opt out of automatic enrollment in the pension fund.
- The rules in this list apply to private-sector employees; for domestic work and the public sector the rules are partly different.
- The net on the payslip changes from month to month: the 13th-month pay, overtime, reimbursements and surtaxes move it. The net salary calculator gives you the year’s average.
Frequently asked questions

What should I receive on the first day?
The written contract or a copy of the hiring notice, with the main information on the employment relationship. What is missing must arrive in writing within 7 days; some items, such as leave and the collective agreement, within a month.
