Brazil overtime (horas extras) calculator
What the month’s overtime is worth: the normal hour, the hour with the premium and the effect on paid weekly rest.
Overtime with DSR
R$357.69
20 hours at R$15.00 each, plus R$57.69 of DSR
- Normal hour R$10.00
- Overtime hour R$15.00
- DSR R$57.69
With a salary of R$2,200.00 and a working week of 44 hours, the normal hour is worth R$10.00 (the salary divided by 220). 20 overtime hours with a premium of 50% are worth R$300.00, and the paid weekly rest adds R$57.69: R$357.69 extra gross in the month, for R$2,557.69 of gross salary in total.
The Constitution guarantees a premium of at least 50% (art. 7, XVI) and the CLT allows up to 2 overtime hours a day (art. 59). Paid weekly rest includes habitual overtime (Law 605/1949, art. 7). INSS and income tax deductions are not in this calculation.

How it works
- The value of the normal hour is the monthly salary divided by the working-week divisor: 5 times the weekly hours, that is, 220 for 44 hours a week, 200 for 40 hours (Labor Court practice).
- The overtime hour is worth the normal hour plus the premium, which is at least 50% (Constitution, art. 7, XVI; CLT, art. 59, § 1). Collective agreements can set more, such as 100% on Sundays and holidays.
- Total overtime is the value of the overtime hour times the hours in the month. The CLT allows up to 2 overtime hours a day (art. 59).
- Paid weekly rest counts habitual overtime (Law 605/1949, art. 7, a). In the usual method, the total overtime is divided by the working days of the month and multiplied by the Sundays and holidays.
Worked example
Salary of R$2,200.00 and a 44-hour week: the normal hour is worth R$2,200.00 ÷ 220 = R$10.00. With a 50% premium, the overtime hour is worth R$15.00, and 20 overtime hours add up to R$300.00. In a month with 26 working days and 5 Sundays and holidays, the DSR is R$300.00 ÷ 26 × 5 = R$57.69. Total overtime with DSR: R$357.69; the month’s gross salary comes to R$2,557.69.

Good to know
- The result is an estimate for an employee with a fixed monthly salary and habitual overtime. What counts is the payslip and the collective agreement of your category, which may bring larger premiums, time banks and other rules.
- The night premium (at least 20% on the daytime hour, with the night hour of 52 minutes and 30 seconds, from 10 pm to 5 am, CLT art. 73), time banks, on-call duty and special schedules, such as 12x36, are not in this calculation.
- The 220 divisor applies to 44 hours a week: it is the 30-day month divided into 6 paid days a week. Whoever works fewer hours a week has a smaller divisor and, so, a dearer hour for the same salary.
- The effects of habitual overtime on vacation, the 13th salary and the FGTS depend on collective agreements and on the TST’s case law, which has changed over the years: this calculator only brings the effect on weekly rest.
- INSS and income tax deductions come out of the gross amount and are not here. Nothing on this page is labor advice: in case of doubt, talk to the HR department, the union or the Labor Court.
Frequently asked questions
How is the value of the overtime hour calculated?
Divide the salary by the working-week divisor (220 for 44 weekly hours) and add the premium, of at least 50%. With a R$2,200 salary: the normal hour is R$10.00 and the overtime hour, R$15.00.
What is the minimum overtime premium?
50% on the normal hour, under the Constitution (art. 7, XVI) and the CLT (art. 59, § 1). Collective agreements can pay more.
How many overtime hours can I work per day?
Up to 2, by individual agreement, collective bargaining agreement or collective labor agreement (CLT, art. 59). The normal working day is 8 hours a day and 44 a week.
Why divide by 220?
Because 44 weekly hours, in a 30-day month divided into 6 paid days a week, give 220 hours a month. For 40 hours a week, the divisor is 200.
What is the DSR on overtime?
Paid weekly rest must take habitual overtime into account (Law 605/1949, art. 7). In the usual method, the month’s total overtime is divided by the working days and multiplied by the Sundays and holidays: R$300.00 ÷ 26 × 5 = R$57.69.
Does the night premium go into this calculation?
No. The night premium is at least 20% and counts the night hour as 52 minutes and 30 seconds (CLT, art. 73): it is another calculation, which this calculator does not do.
